capital one x orange bowl
Capital One, the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl, challenged us to come up with ideas to help set the Orange Bowl apart from the 30-something other bowl games played around the same time. As a Florida State University grad who didn’t miss a single home game, I was more than happy to take on this challenge. Mama didn’t raise no benchwarmer.

Your team is like your family.
You can talk bad about your family, but no one else is allowed to.
You can bash the way your team is playing,
but no one else can … especially announcers.
We've all been there before. We're watching our team on TV and it's obvious the announcers are not on our side. It's annoying and frustrating to have biased announcers when they are rooting for the other team. But instead of fighting this ... let's lean into it.
Capital One hires biased announcers for the Orange Bowl. On purpose.

Capital One is changing how you watch (or rather how you hear) the Orange Bowl this year. You’ll be able to use your Amazon Echo to choose your Biased Announcer. Pick between two options: Miami announcer or Michigan announcer. Your announcer will play up your team's successes and highlight the other team’s fumbles or snafus in an accurate but comical way.
Just mute your TV during the game, tune into your chosen announcer on your Amazon Echo and then sit back and enjoy the game. Even if the game doesn’t go your way, at least you know the commentary will.
